Paint the city

Produced by Global Street Art, London Mural Festival returns to the capital’s streets this September with over 100 murals planned, free for everyone to enjoy, from some of the world's best street artists. The festival will bring together thousands of artists, communities, and visitors to celebrate London’s diverse people and places.

FAQs

  • While the first London Mural Festival required major investment by Global Street Art, we also had support from a number of landlords and a very limited number of brands. In 2020, due to COVID, our event schedule was necessarily very limited, so instead, we painted murals under social distancing and published a map of all the new murals afterwards, so people could go and see them in their own time.

In 2024, we will continue to take a pragmatic approach to funding, with the aim that the festival should ultimately become sustainable for it to be able to continue. Although we received no public funding or grants during the first festival, London Mural Festival is not closed to support from different sorts of partners, including public bodies, landlords, brands, and individuals. To find out how you can help, please email partnerships@londonmuralfestival.com

  • London Mural Festival has an open application process; there is a simple form you can fill out, which makes the process simpler to manage. All data captured will be deleted after the festival, unless you explicitly wish to keep in touch through our mailing list.

The selection process is managed by Global Street Art, and quite simply, we try our best. During London Mural Festival, we will try to provide canvases for artists of all levels of experience at different stages in their careers. Some artists would like to paint large walls, and some artists would like to paint small walls. We try our best to match artists with walls of appropriate sizes.

There are a lot of blank walls across London, and we try to say yes where we can. How many artists can participate depends on the number of new walls we are able to source, funding, and our ability to manage so many sites being painted simultaneously.

  • Murals will last as long as possible. Most of the murals from the first London Mural Festival are still running four years later.

  • The festival will take place in September 2024. The schedule will be announced closer to the time. Sign up to our emails to be in the know!

  • Stay tuned for updates on our interactive mural map to easily find and explore the murals.

  • Unlike London Mural Festival in 2020, where COVID made it unsafe to publish the location of murals while they were being painted, in 2024 we will share more details of which walls are being painted when, subject to artists being comfortable. Some artists would rather paint privately because they don’t want to show their identity or they don’t want to be distracted; we will respect their wishes.
